Good Shepherd Congregation has been blessed with a beautiful, meaningful Logo designed by one of our members, Mrs. Patty Bousman.
The cross on the logo picks up the lines of the cross in our chancel. The lines extend to indicate that the Good Shepherd reaches out to serve people who are in need. The lines are open to show the inclusive nature of the church, a very important emphasis in our new church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA). All people are welcome into the community of Good Shepherd. The cross has no corpus, no body, on it; therefore, it represents the resurrection, not the death of Christ. The empty cross is a sign of God's victory and hope for God's creation.
As Easter is represented by the empty cross, Christmas is represented by the lamb's body and legs which form a cradle. The two great holy days of the Christian church are both here.
The lamb, or sheep, may be either Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, or the sheep who are carried by Christ the Good Shepherd. The Shepherd's crook is a symbol of loving, nurturing care. The crook and cross form the ancient chi-rho monogram for Christ, created from the first two letters, XP, of the Greek title for Christ XPISTOS.
The circle, symbol of eternity, encompasses the entire ministry of Good Shepherd congregation and sets it in its proper perspective. The Kingdom, the power and the glory belong to the great Good Shepherd, now and forever.
