Small Groups

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is a large congregation composed of small groups. Good Shepherd is a congregation of small groups - rather than a congregation with small groups.

The small groups' vision is not a program, but a way of being the church that is based upon the welcoming nature of God by:

  • Providing the opportunity for pastoral care to happen within the group and from the small group to people outside the group
  • Encouraging us to connect with one another for development of our spiritual gifts as well as our growth in faith and mission
  • Helping develop leaders for the congregation's ministries

Those who are not in a small group are still part of the community and we continue to help them be connected to others in meaningful ways.

About Small Groups

To be a Small Group, we:

  • Spend time in getting acquainted and connected
  • Hear or study the Word of God
  • Share our questions and share our faith with one another
  • Pray for the needs of people in the group and outside the group
  • Are involved in mission

Other classes and Ministry Teams may follow these guidelines in ways that will allow them to accomplish their tasks and still be a significant group in the lives of its members.
