Visitors Welcome - A complete guide for your first visit

Thank you for thinking about visiting our church. We would like your visit to be meaningful and comfortable. This guide contains information about:

  • getting to and finding your way around the church.
  • what to expect in the Service you choose to attend.
  • who to contact if you have questions. 

About Lutheran Theology

  • We are associated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America
  • Please contact the church office and ask about our next "Informational Gathering". These are one- day sessions where you can learn more about Good Shepherd and Lutheran beliefs. Meet and talk with our Ministry Staff, Team Leaders, Members and other guests.
  • We have scheduled the next Informational Gathering! It will be on September 18, 2011 from 12:00pm until 2:30pm at Good Shepherd.

Service Times and Styles

  • Saturday at 5:30 pm - Informal worship. Communion at every service. Dress is casual. Piano led (3 X’s per month) / Organ led (1 X per month) View typical order of service (pdf).
  • Sunday at  8:00 am - Traditional worship. Communion at every service. Organ led   View typical order of service (pdf).
  • Sunday at 9:30 am - Traditional worship. Communion at every service. Organ led   View typical order of service (pdf).
  • Sunday at 11:00 am - Contemporary service. Communion is the 1st & 3nd Sundays of the month and the 5th Sunday when there is one. Praise band led View typical order of service (pdf). 

Location, Parking, & Building

You can enter the building on the upper level facing 141 by the doors at the south and north end of the Narthex.  See the building floor plan

Children

  • Nursery care is available during Saturday and Sunday morning worship service. The Nursery is located at the Northwest corner of the building and can be reached by going through the first hallway by the North entrance. Please be sure to sign-in with the nursery attendant.
  • Children's Sunday School is at 9:30 am. View the age groups and location.  

Entering the Sanctuary  
When you enter the santuary you will be greeted and receive a bulletin which includes the Order of Service and announcements of upcoming events and activities. 

Friendship Book
You are invited to complete the red Friendship attendance book that should be at the end of every pew. We would ask that you enter your name, the date,  and service. You will not be contacted unless you indicate you wish to be contacted and provide a phone number.   

Sermon
The sermon is typically 15 to 20 minutes in length. Read or listen to a typical sermon

Who can receive Holy Communion 
Good Shepherd welcomes to Holy Communion all who are baptized and children who have received First Communion instruction. Children who have not received First Communion instruction, are invited to come forward for a blessing. 

Styles of Holy Communion
Communion is received at the front of the sanctuary as:

  • Kneeling at the Communion railing where you will cup your hands to receive an individual wafer and then you can select a small cup of wine or white grape juice.
  • Continuous service where you will cup your hands to receive an individual wafer and then you can select a small cup of wine or white grape juice.
  • Intinction where you cup your hands to receive an individual wafer and dip it in wine if you wish. 

In all styles a common cup of wine is available.
