Because Good Shepherd understands that sometimes those in need are looking for more of a helping hand, volunteering is also encouraged and embraced. See the list below to find out more.
On-Going Volunteer Opportunities
GSLC Bread Ministry: The St. Louis Bread Company donates leftover bakery goods to homeless shelters at the end of most business days, but cannot deliver the bread. Many homeless shelters simply don't have the means to make it to West St. Louis county to pick up leftovers. Fortunately, many caring GSLC members have chosen to help collect, package, and distribute bread to two outreach locations in north St. Louis city. For more information on how you can help support this special GSLC outreach initiative, please visit the Welcome Center where the Bread Ministry notebook is located or Contact Us with any questions.
Adopt-a-Road: In our efforts to keep Missouri beautiful, Good Shepherd has adopted a section of road on Weidmann between Queeny Park and Manchester. Our efforts to keep this area clean of debris is an on-going part of GSLC's mission to improve the world around us.
Lutheran Family and Children's Services Annual Family Walk: To help raise money for this important organization, every year GSLC members sign-up individually and as families and car pool to the walk site.
Habitat for Humanity Workday: Each year, Good Shepherd members are up bright and early to get a head start on building houses for the needy through Habitat for Humanity. Tools, sunscreen and a willing attitude helped these members help others in the North City area.
Lenten Prayer Vigil: Every year during Lent, Good Shepherd selects an area of focus for spiritual growth and then meets at the church for a prayer vigil on one Lenten evening from 6:30 p.m. until midnight.
Previous Volunteeering Activities
Ecuador Mission Trip: Construct a church and an orphanage and provide an outreach program to the community youth. These were the goals of the 55 youth and adult volunteers who set out on the mission trip to Quto, Ecuador, in July 2005.
Gambrill Gardens Retirement Community: "One Holy Lamb", a musical cantata performed by the GSLC choir and orchestra made a one-stop tour presentation for the residents of Gambrill Gardens.
Mother-One-Another, Brother: A nonprofit organization working with Valley Park's Circle of Concern to help families with small projects around their houses that they are unable to complete or afford on their own. GSLC volunteers assisted MOAB with cleaning, painting, and making minor household repairs to lighten the load.
Friendship Village: Our Rebekah Circle small group met with residents of the Friendship Village retirement community for fellowship and Bible study.
