16" 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,' the Lord replied. 'Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen of me and what I will show you."
Acts 26:16
The Witness Team is in place to invite and welcome visitors to Good Shepherd. Topics we address are as broad as organizing events and encouraging participation to making GSLC more visible to passing traffic. Being on the Witness Team does not obligate you to leading an event or project.
Below is a description of the various components of the Witness Team.
New Member Small Group Leader
When a visitor decides that he/she and or his/her family is interested in joining Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, we encourage them to go through our New Member Small Group sessions. These sessions are designed to familiarize a visitor with Good Shepherd practices and introduce a visitor to other people who have similar backgrounds or interests.
We try to pair up those wishing to become new members with others like themselves. A single person may be paired in a small group with several other single people also wishing to become members of GSLC.
A leader is chosen to assist this group in learning more about Good Shepherd. This leader is also typically similar to the small group. So, a group of singles would be paired with a single leader and they would journey through the new member process together.
Phone Calling
First time visitors can request someone call them when they visit our church. Volunteers make between 2-3 calls per week - usually within 48 hours of the vistor's initial attendance at Good Shepherd and request for a call.
During the welcome call, the volunteer answers any questions the visitor might have about our church. They are also encouraged to chat socially with the visitor to determine how Good Shepherd might be able to meet the visitor's needs. A team leader provides one-on-one training to teach volunteers how to handle the welcome call.
Sunday Morning Welcome Team
The Sunday Morning Welcome Team is a person or group of people who are willing to make the extra effort before or after a church service to look for visitors and make them feel welcome in our church.
The welcome team member should be available 15 minutes before or after the church service to look for those who are new to the church, answer questions they might have, introduce them to the Pastors, and provide a tour of the facility. Training is available to anyone wishing to assist with this important ministry.
Other Volunteer Needs
The Witness Team is made up of dedicated GSLC volunteers who are excited about being members of Good Shepherd. These volunteers share their enthusiasm about being involved in our community by helping visitors feel welcomed into our church and events.
Some other, less frequent tasks that the Witness Team occasionally needs assistance with include such things as photographing new members for our "welcome board", assisting with parking lot greeting/direction for busy traffic days, etc.
Interested in Helping?
The Witness Team is currently a very small group with only 3-5 members and are anxious to get new members who could provide fresh ideas and input. So, please call the church office at 636-391-6685 or Contact Us if you would like to learn more about Witness Team activities and how you can help.
