MATTHEW 13:1-9, 18-23

In this week’s sermon, we explore Jesus’ Parable of the Sower and the surprising generosity of God. Seeds are precious, especially in the world Jesus knew, and no farmer would intentionally waste them. Yet in this parable, the sower scatters seed everywhere—on paths, rocks, thorns, and good soil. This reveals a powerful truth about God: the good news of God’s love is given with reckless generosity, even when it may be ignored, resisted, or rejected.

The sermon invites us to move from simply hearing the teachings of Jesus to truly understanding them in ways that take root and bear fruit. Rather than blaming the sower, the seed, or the circumstances around us, Jesus invites us to reflect honestly on the condition of our own hearts. The good news is that soil can change. Wherever our hearts are today—hardened, shallow, crowded, or fruitful—the Holy Spirit is still at work, tending the soil and helping us grow into lives that bear good fruit for the kingdom of heaven.
