Matthew 5:1-10
All Saints Day

On All Saints Sunday and Commitment Sunday, this sermon reflects on the way Jesus sees people differently than we often do. Where the disciples may have seen a desperate, overwhelming crowd, Jesus saw beloved people and spoke blessing over them. In the Beatitudes, Jesus names suffering honestly and creates a new reality of hope: where you are today is not where you will be tomorrow, and the burden you carry does not have to be carried alone.

The Church is called to become that kind of community—a body shaped by grace, healing, reconciliation, and love. On All Saints Sunday, we remember those who carried this faith before us, and on Commitment Sunday, we commit ourselves to continuing that legacy. We are invited not only to give, but to let Jesus heal us, work in us, and work through us so that the blessing and love of Christ can reach the world.
